Live Readings

I’ve started to do some book readings in front of children, and it’s a heart-racing experience. First, I need to not stumble over my words, which is NOT a guarantee. Then, I need to make sure my voice can reach the back of the room. Finally, I need to have answers available when the questions are asked afterwards. It’s intensely gratifying when the questions are engaged and interested - some are interested in the story itself (great!), but others want to know about the process of writing, where the ideas come from, and how the cover art looks so cool!

I had no idea how this aspect of the process would go for me, and I am almost as enamored with it as writing the books themselves. I have another one this week, and one booked for a few weeks from now. I’m sure each one will be different, but so far I have loved it and am looking forward to more in the future. I’m sure an adult audience would bring its own feeling of satisfaction (and I hope to reach them as well!), but the children’s open minds are perfect for magic and I love them as my target audience. Maybe this next generation will be the one to do better…
